Overview
Perched on the edge of a hill between a historic castle and German medieval suburb, this project incorporates and redistributes the architectural vernacular of the surrounding neighborhood while employing energy-saving techniques to surpass the city’s already high green building regulations. Based upon the geometry of a traditional gabled house, corners are cut away to maximize the western facade and northern views of the medieval city which lie beyond. As it is a flexible multi-unit dwelling, the maximization of private interior and exterior space for each unit is accomplished through the strategic alignment of terraces and balconies around the entire facade.
