Hudson Square

New York, New York, USA

The project revitalizes an underutilized, private-owned public space in downtown Manhattan, New York. Staged as a series of replicated units at various scales, the project's brightly-colored, mirrored surfaces both contrast and incorporate the cold materials of their surroundings.

The interiors of the structures contain an elaborate pattern of electroluminescent tape. This inner pattern is visually accessible by peering through the open seams in the structures, thus drawing the pedestrian's gaze to the interior of the objects. The effect is to create a sense of interiority that conveys a visual warmth and engages the pedestrian to stop and interact with the structures.
